Each of these answers one question that changes what a trip costs. Every figure is measured, dated and linked to its source.
The RV measurement that decides your ferry fare, and why your listing omits it
Washington State Ferries charges a vehicle under 30 feet roughly double if it stands over 7 feet 2 inches tall. On Anacortes to Friday Harbor that is $128.90 against $256.75 one way. Only 33 of 473 Seattle RV listings publish an exterior height, so ask the host before you book.
Why a trailer costs less per night and closes more campgrounds
Travel trailers are the cheapest Seattle rentals at a median $126 per day and the most listed at 193 of 473. They are also the worst fit: Mount Rainier's White River campground caps trailers at 18 feet against 27 feet for motorhomes, so 20% of trailers clear it against 63% of Class C motorhomes.
The San Juans ferry fare falls 26% overnight on 1 October
The peak Washington State Ferries tariff on Anacortes to Friday Harbor ends on 30 September 2026. A vehicle under 30 feet over 7 feet 2 inches pays $256.75 one way on 30 September and $190.40 on 1 October, so departing one day later saves $132.70 round trip.
